Role of arterial wall secretion in the regulation of blood pressure.

چکیده
The authors present experiments demonstrating that the hypertension produced by the stimulation of the central end of the vagus nerve is brought about by the appearance of a pressor substance in the circulating blood. The results of these experiments show that such a substance does not come from any gland nor from the central nervous system. The observed facts indicate that its origin is the arterial wall proper, from which it is directly liberated into the circulation. The pharmacologic proofs suggest that this substance is noradrenaline. IN 1947 we showed' that electric stimulation of the central ends of the cut vagus nerves produces a vasopressor response accompanied by release of a vasoconstrictor substance which we believed came from arterial walls. We showed subsequently2,34, 5 that this vasoconstrictor substance does not come from an endocrine organ, and have reported our views on its origin and nature.6 This report reviews and extends these observations. METHODS Mongrel dogs were anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital (32 mg. per kilogram). Blood pressures were recorded on a smoked drum from a can-nulated femoral artery connected to a mercury manometer. The vagus nerves were isolated in the neck and cut between ligatures; their central ends were stimulated by applying a silver electrode connected to an inductor. Duration of stimuli was between 10 and 60 seconds at a frequency of 20 to 50 cycles per second with a pulse duration of 3 to 8 milliseconds.

Presentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall
Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the substitution of the blood pressure changes in the central arteries such as carotid with the blood pressure changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...
متن کاملThe effect of glutaminergic system on cardiovascular regulation of rat
Introduction: The bed nucleus stria terminalis (BST) is a part of the limbic system, which plays a role in regulation of heart beat and blood circulation. It was recently shown that microinjection of L-glutamate in the BST elicits cardiovascular depressive, but the role of glutamate receptor subtypes has not been investigated yet. In this study, the role of glutamate receptor subgroups in regul...
متن کاملThe effect of nucleus tractus solitarius inactivation on blood pressure in diabetic rats
The role of nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS) in cardiovascular system regulation is controversial. On the other hand, the problem of hypertension in diabetic animals is the subject of many research programs. The aim of present study was to determine whether inactivation of NTS could affect blood pressure and heart rate in diabetic rats. To this end, stereptozotocin induced diabetic rats were an...

متن کاملاثر تزریق استیل کولین به ناحیهی تگمنتال شکمی بر پاسخهای قلبی و عروقی موش بزرگ آزمایشگاهی بیهوش
Background and Objective: The Ventral Tegmental Area is a part of the mesolimbic structure. In addition to its role in motivation, mood, cognition, schizophrenia, addiction and Parkinson’s disease, it is involved in the regulation of the cardiovascular system. The presence of cholinergic afferent fibers in the VTA has been demonstrated but there is no specific information about its role in card...
متن کاملImpact of Blood Vessel Wall Flexibility on the Temperature and Concentration Dispersion
The analysis of solute and thermal dispersion in pulsatile flow through the stenotic tapered blood vessel is presented. The present problem is an extension of the work done by Ramana et al. who considered the time-invariant arterial wall. In the present model, the flexible nature of the arterial wall through the obstruction (called stenosis) is considered and it is achieved with the he...
